I currently work as a radiology assistant and conduct orthopedic surgery research, with the goal of attending medical school in the near future. Since high school, I’ve been passionate about youth education and continued my involvement at UCLA with organizations that promote early STEM engagement and academic success. Hi! I'm Joshua and I am so excited to be a part of Just Start LA's tutoring team! I recently graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and a minor in science education. I've been tutoring physical science and calculus classes for 6 years, helping both high school and college students achieve their academic goals with a positive attitude. During my time at UCLA, I have observed high school classrooms for chemistry and physics, and worked as a chemistry lab assistant. As you can probably tell by now, my dream is to become a teacher or professor! Specifically, the subjects I tutor are honors / AP Chemistry, honors physics / AP Physics 1 / AP Physics C, and AP Calculus AB. Hi, I’m Riley! At Just Start LA, I’ll be tutoring students in government, history, english and communications, and public speaking, which are subjects I love and believe help build confidence and strong voices. I recently earned my Master’s Degree in Communication and Advocacy, with a concentration in Strategic Communication, from James Madison University. While at JMU, I was the Lab Manager for the university’s first-ever Political Science lab, the American Political Reform and Innovation Lab (APRILab). I also peer tutored college students in communication, helping individuals and groups write and deliver speeches. Outside of campus, I tutored elementary-aged students through the Gus Bus literacy program, working with kids both in the classroom and in their homes. I’ve always been passionate about learning, connection, and curiosity, which are values I see reflected in Just Start LA and ones I carry with me in my professional life. Hi! I’m Sophia, and I’m super excited to be working with the JUST START LA team. I’m originally from New Jersey and recently returned after spending four years in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where I earned my degree in Biology from James Madison University. During my time at JMU, I worked as a biochemistry research assistant, chemistry tutor, and biology/chemistry teaching assistant. I currently work as a Project Manager at a research institute supporting families affected by rare diseases, helping them submit biological samples to make them readily available for research. Outside of work, I enjoy running, baking, and spending time with family and friends. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to work with students again and help them thrive!

Hi everyone! My name is Skylar Kane and I am a second year student at UCLA majoring in Education and Social Transformation! I have always loved tutoring and even did it in high school. I have over 2,000 hours of tutoring experience and it truly is something I enjoy and can see myself doing for the long term! My favorite subject is history, but I most enjoy tutoring English. I’m able to tutor pretty much every subject, specifically History (at or below AP level), English (At AP level or below), math up until Pre-calculus, any type of science, and everything in between.
